Preparation for Level 2 Childcare
Description

This course is for all learners who would like to join the L2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner.

It teaches you how to find a work placement, apply for DBS, study skills, how to complete and log a unit and develops digital study and organisational skills.

This course involves half-day classroom study and 1 day independent study.

Students will:

  • learn how to research potential work settings
  • learn how to find Ofsted ratings and other information about potential work placement settings
  • broaden knowledge about Early Years settings and make more informed decisions about potential work placements
  • feel more empowered
  • develop self-confidence
  • develop employability skills
  • develop study skills

Settings will:

  • have the opportunity to develop more relationships with the local community
  • have the option of using a volunteer to support work within the school


Adults 19+ / 24+

Learners who:

  • have previously completed the level 1 Award in Caring for Children
  • are educated up to at least level 2 (GCSE English)
  • have completed another level 2 qualification
  • wish to learn how to find a work placement within Early Years and progress to the level 2 Diploma qualification 
  • wish to progress into a paid Early Years job
  • wish to progress to a level 3 Early Years apprenticeship 
Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner
Description

Accredited by CACHE/NCFE, completion of the Preparation for L2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner is mandatory.

The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age with applied knowledge in the early years, 0 - 5 years.

The qualification content meets the Department for Educations (DfE) level 2 full and relevant criteria for a level 2 Early Years Practitioner in the workforce.

The course is a 3.5 day per week commitment over 27 weeks, comprising of:

  • 2 short days in the classroom
  • 1 day in a work placement 
  • 1 day independent study


Most of our previous learners have moved into paid work once they have completed this qualification.

This qualification allows a learner to count towards the level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner across the Early Years workforce.

Learners may work under supervision in a variety of roles including:

  • Nursery practitioner
  • Classroom assistant (reception class)
  • Pre-school practitioner 


Pupils will:

  • experience a new member of staff/adult who is on a learning journey
  • see positive representation from their local community
  • experience a higher adult to child ratio


Students will:

  • develop practical skills working with children in the setting
  • be able to put theory learnt in the classroom into practice
  • be able to reflect on their experiences, develop their understanding and knowledge at a deeper level, and embed their learning in practice
  • develop a working relationship with the school staff and children


Settings will:

  • develop more relationships with the local community
  • increase their staff to children ratio
  • potentially discover new perspectives and skills
  • have positive representation

Adults 19+ / 24+

  • have a work placement set up
  • have Level 1 Award in Caring for Children
  • are educated up to at least level 2 (GCSE English)
  • have completed another level 2 qualification 
  • are in a paid Early Years job


Introduction to Childcare
Description

On this course you will learn about the different Early Years settings,  job roles and responsibilities of a childcare worker. You will learn how to create different activities that support a child's engagement and development. You will also learn about guidance and procedures that keep children safe and happy.

This course will also help you have a more of an idea of how you can progress into this area of work.

Students will:

  • potentially progress onto an accredited Childcare related course such as Level 1 Award in Caring for Children, Reading to a Child (ESB)
  • potentially progress onto a non- accredited Study skills for Childcare, where English Literacy and study skills can be developed to enable  progress onto higher-level courses


This course is for Greenwich residents, 19+ who are interested in childcare and would like to develop their knowledge about the roles of a childcare worker. 

It is ideal for adults returning to education and or those who have English as a second language and want to develop their study skills and English speaking, reading and writing abilities.

Level 1 Award in Caring for Children
Description

This qualification develops learners knowledge and skills needed to care for young children aged 0-5 years. 

It covers children’s growth, learning and development. There are also units to help with self-development. 

Students will:

  • be prepared for next steps either in training or moving towards work
  • potentially be able to progress onto Reading to a Child, Preparation for Level 2 Childcare, Early Years and Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner


This course is for Greenwich residents, 19+ who are interested in childcare and would like to develop their knowledge and gain an accredited qualification.

It is ideal for adults returning to education and or those who have English as a second language and want to develop their study skills and English speaking, reading and writing abilities.
