Assessment of children with complex needs
The aim of this course is to enable staff to make effective use of ongoing 'formative' assessment as part of the graduated approach.

Attendees will be shown examples of observation-based assessment and how to effectively track small steps of progress for children with complex needs. They will also be given the opportunity to explore how effective assessment informs planning for children with SEND.
Pupils will:
  • benefit from accurate and in depth assessment of learning and identification of next steps
Staff will:
  • be able to identify and track steps of progress and set appropriate learning targets
Establishments will:
  • have more effective tracking of progress for children with complex needs
