Secondary RE Subject Leader Network Meetings
We would like to invite secondary RE Subject Leaders to attend a series of network meetings that will take place over the course of the academic year. The meetings will be a fantastic opportunity to meet colleagues from different schools, share good practice and discuss current research and initiatives.
The sessions will be run by Rahima Choudhury, Curriculum Leader of Guidance at Tallis & Associate RE Lecturer at Goldsmiths, as part of the work with RBG EYFS/Primary Strategy Group.  Rahima has been running a successful primary and secondary RE hub in Greenwich for several years. Rahima is passionate about her subject and wants to share this passion across Greenwich schools.
The sessions will include:
  • Opportunities for leaders to reflect on their leadership of RE and identify areas to develop back in school
  • Explore Threshold Concepts; look at SACRE Syllabus and plan
  • Collaborate and share best practice with RE leads across Greenwich
  • A close look at progression of different strands of RE from Year 7 to YR13
  • A deep understanding of substantive and disciplinary subject knowledge
  • Understanding what excellence looks like
  • Collaborate on building a bank of high-quality resources
We encourage RE subject leaders or RE teachers from all Greenwich secondary schools and with all levels of experience to join us.

Supporting struggling readers across all year groups

This course identifies and provides strategies for teaching the crucial concepts that children need to learn in the early stages of reading, from directionality through to working on unknown words in context.

It identifies the three main sources of information that good readers use to read: Meaning, Language Structure and Phonics, and provides training on how to support these three areas in simple, practical ways.

Participants will be taught how to take a Running Record. This is a simple assessment that can be taken on any text. They are a quick and efficient way of gathering information about a child’s reading and is particularly useful for children who struggle with reading, providing valuable information about the strategies a child uses/ignores. Once gaps have been identified they can be addressed in order to support the child’s reading development.

Participants will:

  • have a clear understanding of the building blocks that need to be taught in order for children to develop into good readers
  • be able to take and analyse a Running Record in order to identify key strengths and weaknesses of readers
  • be able to use a range of simple strategies to support children in addressing any specific gaps
