From time to time all staff will be faced by a difficult and demanding parent. From challenging safeguarding decisions, academic results, to accusations of bullying, some parents can be very intimidating or even aggressive.
This course is suitable for anyone (including support and admin staff) from primary, secondary and special schools as well as FE colleges, and will examine effective ways of handling such situations. This course is suitable for all staff who come into face to face or telephone contact with parents.
Handling violence and aggression in the workplace is easier when you know what to do. Our course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to deal with these situations.
Staff will:
- appreciate what are acceptable and unacceptable levels of behaviour
- identify the causes of anger and aggression in adults
- be able to use body language to gain rapport with difficult people
- be able to apply diffusion techniques
- be able to use effective conflict resolution techniques
- be able to practice assertive communication
- be able to deal with aggression that turns to violence
Schools will:
- have the tools to draw an effective action plan and risk assessment to deal with aggressive adults
- know how to ban verbally and physically aggressive adults from schools
- feel confident about dealing with anger or aggression in people
All school staff
This course will investigate the specific and important role of the Safeguarding Governor, to ensure the:
- legal requirements are in place and are known and understood by all staff and adults working in your school
- expectations of OfSTED are being met and that governors can provide evidence of their compliance
- expectations from Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance are fully understood and embedded
This is a certified course to support Governors evidence of KCSIE compliance.
Governors will:
- have a clear understanding of their role
- have the knowledge and expertise to hold the school to account for ensuring that the policies and processes are in place and that they are being consistently applied
- have a good understanding of what they should monitor and challenge and how that is reported back to the full Governing Board
- be able to report on the staff's understanding of their role in Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance
All Governors
This workshop is the Safer Recruitment Consortium accredited, updated version of the Safer Recruitment training for Headteachers, school Governors and other staff who are likely to sit on interview panels or appoint staff.
It is still a requirement for every school appointments panel to include at least one member who has completed the Safer Recruitment training.
Course content provides clear explanations of government guidance regarding the safer recruitment process. It also includes an update of the most recent legislation changes (Keeping Children Safe in Education) and the pre-employment checking process that impacts on Safeguarding and Child Protection.
It is recommended that you refresh your training every 5 years.
Pupils will:
- be safer and have safeguarding needs met in a more appropriate and timely manner
Practitioners will:
- have an awareness and understanding of offender behaviour
- be able to identify the key features of staff recruitment that helps deter or prevent the appointment of unsuitable people
- be able to consider policies and practices that minimise opportunities for abuse
- begin to review their own and their settings' policies and practices, with a view to making them safer
Settings will:
- be safer organisations
- comply with government guidance and legislation
All Headteachers, school Governors, Business Managers and other staff likely to sit on interview panels or administer staff appointment
This course provides participants with the seven 2 hour sessions (previously 3 days) for preparation for assessment and the fee also covers the half-day assessment required for gaining HLTA status.
These seven sessions will take you through all aspects which you need to cover in preparation for assessment against the 33 HLTA standards.
Session 1 Introduction, overview of assessment methods
Session 2 Overview of task forms, standards and examples
Session 3 How to record evidence of teaching, standards and examples
Session 4 How to select and record supplementary document evidence
Session 5 Draft task reviews, assessment grid referencing and short task completion
Session 6 Short task completion and how to prepare for school assessment meetings
Session 7 Tutorial
All sessions including the tutorial are compulsory and candidates who miss one will need to reschedule for the next available dates. This will affect their hand in and assessment dates.
The final assessment will be by telephone or online meeting.
All candidates must check they have the relevant level 2 (equivalent to GCSE A*-C, 9-4, grade) maths and English qualification certificates before applying.
HLTAs will:
- be supported in completing the written assignments and feel prepared for the online assessment required.
