Down Syndrome Support Group: Literacy/Early Maths skills

Training will include:

  • Profile of strengths and weakness of a learner with Down Syndrome
  • Learning about reading and numeracy interventions such as See and Learn, Word Up, Reading and Language intervention scheme, Numicon
  • Being able to access STEPS resources to support reading and numeracy
  • Learning about websites and apps that can provide further support
  • Opportunity to share ideas with other delegates supporting children with Down Syndrome

Pupils will:

  • benefit from carefully planned support tailored to meet individual needs 

Staff will: 

  • have increased confidence to effectively plan and implement reading and numeracy interventions when supporting pupils with Down Syndrome

Designated Safeguarding Lead Person Training

This one-day course will cover the role and responsibilities of the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), help participants understand safeguarding thresholds to help make the right decisions about what steps to take when concerns about a child have been raised. How to recognise, respond to, refer and record concerns about a child. 

The course will assist you to understand statutory safeguarding legislation and guidance that forms your organisation’s processes and procedures to safeguard and protect children. This will include the current Keeping Children Safe in Education - Working Together to Safeguard Children, and The role of the DSL at a Child Protection Case Conference. 

Pupils will:

  • be safer and have safeguarding needs met in a more appropriate and timely manner 

Practitioners will: 

  • understand the child protection role and responsibilities of the Designated Safeguarding Lead Person
  • know how to deal with difficult conversations and responsibilities
  • be able to respond to concerns (initial responses to children and families, making and managing a referral to Children’s Services, contributing to Child Protection Conferences and the Child Protection Plan) 

Settings will: 

  • be safer organisations and compliant with statutory government guidance


Designed for those who will be acting as and taking on the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead Person for safeguarding and child protection.

Supporting Autistic Children in Primary (x5 weeks)
This 5-day course includes the following:

  • have a deeper understanding of autism, and how it affects children and their families
  • be equipped with a range of strategies to support children with autism in mainstream primary school

  • have staff who have a greater understanding of best practice in relation to autistic children, as well as the sensory difficulties they experience which can affect their ability to be included

First Aid at Work - Requalification

This 2 day course will review the knowledge, skills and objectives necessary for First Aid.

This will include CPR, resuscitation, bandaging, burns, and other First Aid issues.  A copy of the latest edition of the First Aid at Work manual will be provided and the new certificate will be valid for three years.

Attendance is required on both dates.

Candidates can now requalify up to 28 days after the expiry but must produce their First Aid at Work certificate on the first day of the course as proof of eligibility.

Practitioners will:

  • be up-to-date and confident in their ability to deal with First Aid situations as and when they arise at work

Those renewing their Health and Safety Regulations, First Aid at Work certificate
