Services

Tutor Services
All tutor costs are inclusive of tutor training, CPD, DBS checks, quality assurance and administration fees.

First Access
The First Access programme, normally delivered in Year 3 for primary and Year 7 for secondary, provides children with a fantastic opportunity to learn an instrument from one of our highly skilled tutors for a whole school year.  Many different instrument choices are available.

First Access comes with a progression route baked in for the creation of a school band or ensemble who receive priority for our out of school performance opportunities such as Showcase Your Sound, a yearly run of evening performances at Blackheath Halls.

The program meets the requirement of the DfE National Plan for Music Education to provide every child with the opportunity to learn a musical instrument and covers all guidance from the DfE Model Music Curriculum for Year 3 as well as many additional aspects of the guidance from Key Stage 2 as a whole.

Whole School Primary Music Curriculum
This programme provides a school with one of our tutors to teach a whole class lesson to each year group from 1- 6 using our bespoke curriculum that covers all aspects of the DfE National Curriculum for Music, and more.

As well as teaching lessons to all year groups, our tutor can deliver two singing assemblies, one for KS1 and one for KS2.  We also offer schools the option of adding either a lunchtime or after-school choir to their provision.

Specialist Instrumental/Vocal Tuition
Weekly tuition delivered by our highly skilled tutors who are professional real-world musicians.  A wide variety of instruments are available and taught at all levels from Key Stage 2 to 5.

After School Clubs
The Royal Greenwich Music Service offer a wide range of after school clubs and can tailor these to suit a schools' need, focussing on a particular area of musical interest.  We currently offer musical theatre clubs, choirs, brass/woodwind groups, djembe clubs, and guitar clubs.

Our instrumental after school clubs can be designed to follow on directly from our First Access programme, facilitating further progression from this provision, but can also be tailored to suit beginners.

Professional Development

Whole School CPD

We are here to help schools develop and improve their music delivery even when not buying into our tutor services.  There are many different kinds of support and training we can offer, no matter the level of a schools existing music provision, and we are happy to tailor our support to a schools' need.  Recent CPD sessions delivered by our qualified music education specialists are 'Music Across the Curriculum' and 'Singing Confidently in the Classroom'.

Charanga Training

All schools in the Royal Borough of Greenwich receive a fully subsidised Charanga account courtesy of our partnership with them.  Many schools are successfully using their online platform to deliver everything from singing and whole class instrumental tuition on a variety of instruments to their entire music curriculum across all year groups.  Charanga is designed to be accessible and easy to use for non-music specialists.

If schools are interested in getting started with Charanga or levelling-up their use of the platform, we can organise in-depth training sessions for a school, delivered by their expert educators.

Schools Music Development Plan

The National Plan for Music Education includes the following statement from the DfE:

"In partnership with their music hub, we would like every school (including multi-academy trusts) to have a Music Development Plan that captures the curricular and co-curricular offer and sets out how it will be staffed and funded."

We can support schools in the creation of a strategic school music education plan, ensuring that all children access an inclusive, meaningful and progressive musical education.

A visiting qualified music education specialist can provide advice and support in many areas including, but not limited to:

  • Audit of provision
  • Whole school music curriculum quality assurance
  • Curriculum planning
  • Recruitment
  • OFSTED 'deep dive' preparation
  • Model Music Curriculum
  • Progression route design

Instrument Loan Scheme

The Royal Greenwich Music Service offer a wide range of instruments that can be hired by schools on a yearly or termly basis.

This heavily subsidised scheme is subject to availability.

Live Music in Schools

As part of our initiative to provide more live music experiences for children in the borough, the Royal Greenwich Music Service are excited to offer primary schools a new opportunity in which students can watch fantastic live music. Local secondary schools with large performance halls will host live gigs by professional musicians organised by the Royal Greenwich Music Service. These performances will also feature ensembles from the host school. The performances will take place during the school day so will be offered to classes as a school trip.

Performance Opportunities

The Royal Greenwich Music Service organise a wide variety of events across the year which are open to all schools in the borough regardless of whether they are buying into provision with us.  These events include the Singing Spectacular and Showcase Your Sound, both held over multiple nights at the fantastic professional concert venue Blackheath Halls, which seats 500. The Singing Spectacular celebrates all things singing and is open to any singing groups from both Primary and Secondary schools.  Showcase Your Sound is open to any kind of musical group from Primary or Secondary level and has featured everything from Primary String ensembles to Sixth Form Jazz bands.

Any resources provided as part of participation in any of our performances can be used all year across the whole school.
